Emma at the age of 16 was sent to Staunton Mental Hospital and most family members do not believe she exists. She was not spoken of after that. A few cousins and sisters visited her a few times. They say she rode naked on a horse to mock lady godiva but that story has not been proved to be true. Emma is buried upside down on a hill at the hospital. I believe she had schizophrenia as some other family members have been institutionalized for that problem. Older relatives described Emma has being dark hair and very tan skin she was "beautiful" and looked more Indian than all of her siblings.

Emma's cause of death is more than likely from experimental procedures done to the brain for people who were believed to be crazy. As mental illness runs in this line.
