Walter Dasbach was the youngest child of Henry Christopher and Maria Christiana (Schaller) Dasbach. His parents were German immigrants who had come to America in their teenage years and married at 18 in Quincy, Adams county, Illinois, where they raised their children. Walter wed Mary Margaret Potter.

Walter was an electrician, and active in the electrician's union. He had a longstanding stomach ailment, according to his obituary. In April 1899 he had a bout with appendicitis. He died aged 31 in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Adams county, Illinois. He was buried at Woodland cemetery in that town, 22 July 1906.
