Monticello, Mississippi--Apri 1
Funeral services were held at Providence Baptist Church for Benson Thames, 52 years old, member of a well-known Lawrence County family who died in a Jackson, Mississippi hospital following an illness of several weeks. The Rev. M. C. Nelson of Monticello, Mississippi, pastor of the Topeka Baptist Church was in charge of the final rites. Interment was in Providence Church Cemetery.
Mr. Thames, resident of the Topeka Community, was married in 1906 to Miss Ida Thornhill, who survives with eleven children, Mrs. Bennie DeLaughter, Brookhaven, Mississippi, Mrs. Aubrey Brown, Baytown, Texas, Mrs. Annie Bell Mitchell of Ruth, Mississippi, Mrs. Bessie Ballard, James, Tera, L. B. Lillian, Vondel, Daisey and Patricia Thames all of Jayess, Mississippi.
Other immediate survivors are his mother, Mrs. Amanda King, Monticello, Mississippi; 21 grandchildren, 3 brothers, three half-brothers, a sister and one half-sister.
