Martha Emma Bushman was born to Martin Benjamin Bushman and
his second wife, Martha Worlton, in Lehi, Utah. She grew up
in a loving home environment and was a faithful daughter of God. The old home were she grew up is still there in Lehi at 316 N. 2nd W. and still in the family. It was built by her father, Martin B. Bushman.
Martha married William John Gurney in the Salt Lake Temple in 1903. Ten children blessed their home: Belva who married Val Johnson; Della, June, Sarah Delvora, Martha, Leo, Lynn, Martin Dean, Elsie and Richard Gurney.
Martha lived a good life, raised her children well and left this life when she was only 44 years old. The loss was met with resolve to keep the family close. Belva, the oldest daughter (my mother in-law) became the mother figure in the home until her own marriage in December 1927 and for all the years after. Still years later the brother's and sister's adored each other and looked forward to the Gurney reunions at Wines Park in Lehi where Aunt Del would sing, "I Have A Testimony." They are all deceased now but the loving relationships continue. There are still Gurney reunions in the park in the summer. The foundations these wonderful ancestors gave each descendant are precious memories locked in the heart.
