Richard K. (Dick) Gurney passed away at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on April 8, 2009, with his wife and daughter at his side.

He was the last of 10 children born to William J. Gurney and Martha Emma Bushman in Lehi, Utah on November 14, 1925.

He married Lisa Louise Zentner in Stuttgart, Germany on December 3, 1955. From this union came Patricia Lynn Gurney at the US Army Hospital in Bad Cannstatt, Germany.

Dick entered the military service in 1944, retiring in 1966. After his army service he was employed at the Utah State Training School, where he worked with many wonderful people in the Medical Department; he retired from there in 1987.

Since his retirement he and his loving wife, Lisa, spent much of their time traveling, and visiting their daughter in California. In 2003 Dick and Lisa moved to Carpinteria, California, to be closer to their daughter.

Dick loved to fish, play cards, and had a great sense of humor; you could always count on him to have a joke up his sleeve. He was an avid walker and could often be found chit-chatting with passersby. His quick wit and gentle soul will be missed by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers: Leo, Lynn and Dean, and six sisters: Della Gurney, June Iverson, Belva Johnson, Delvora Pehrson, Martha Woolstenhulme and Elsie Simmons. Dick's mother passed away when he was just nine months old. His father never remarried; what a terrible hardship that must have been for him, raising 10 children alone. He is survived by his wife and daughter, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside Services will be held at a later date at the Lehi City Cemetery.
At his request, there will be no viewing.
