John Bowman was born on Apr 9, 1808 in Augusta County, Virginia, the first child of Jacob and Nancy Bowman to be born there after their move from Pennsylvania in 1805. John married Sarah Loop on Apr 3, 1828. In 1832, they moved to Walnut Township in Montgomery County where John entered 40 acres of land from the U. S. government. In 1851, he deeded a portion of his land for the establishment of the Providence Christian Church associated with the cemetery where he was buried. John and Sarah were the parents of eight children: Nancy Ann Burk, Elizabeth, Christian, Jacob, Catherine, Mary A., Andrew and Samuel.
