In the fall of 1832, Jacob and Nancy moved to Jefferson Township in Boone County, Indiana. All of their sons and son-in-laws, except Jacob, seemed to have left Virginia about this same time, most purchasing land from the U. S. government in the same Boone County area or just west in Walnut Township in Montgomery County. According to family lore, the older couple spent their first winter in a tent on property belonging to one of their sons. Only in the spring were they able to build a house on property belonging to another son. Jacob died soon after the move on 4 June 1835 with Nancy living until 1849.
