Fred Aue, Former President of First National Bank, Dies Here June 19

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church here at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, for Fred C. Aue, 80, retired Sioux Center banker, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital Thursday, June 16, following a few days confinement.

Services were conducted by the Rev. J. B. Hulst and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.

Mr. Aue was a member of the staff of the First National Bank of Sioux Center for 50 years and served from 1946 until his retirement in 1955 as its president. Following his retirement he continued to serve as a bank director until January 1, 1967, when he retired from the board.

He joined the local bank staff in July of 1905, as a bookkeeper. Five years later, in 1910, he became assistant cashier and eight years later, in 1918 was named cashier, a position he held until he was named president In 1946.

Mr. Aue was born in The Netherlands October 21, 1888, and came to the U. S. as a boy with his parents and other members of a Dutch colony. The group first settled at Julesburg, Colo., and then, a short time later, came to Sioux County by freight train, with all their earthly possessions, including some livestock, riding the same train.

Mr. Aue was only 3 at the time the family settled here. He was married to Gertrude Van Kirkoff who preceded him in death. Sometime later, May 26, 1939, he was married to Etta Vander Berg, who survives him.

Other survivors include a brother, Chris, of Orange City; and two sisters, Mrs. D. Feikema of Rockford, Mich., and Mrs. D. Hollebrek of Grand Rapids, Mich.
