Silas Campbell was one of nine children born to William C. Campbell (1811-1874) and Temperance Mercer. Silas married Mary Francis Wells, daughter of John Eli Wells and Katherine Barbara Dowdy Wells. They had three sons:
James N. Campbell born in 1879, died in 1978
John E. Campbell born in 1881, died in 1931
David Moses Campbell born in 1887, died in 1954.
In 1887 they had another child who died at birth.
