Bessie Mae Kaiser (spelled Kiser at birth) was born on September 25, 1886 in Harrison Township, Paulding County, Ohio to Henry Kiser and Amanda (Slater) Kiser.
Her mother died when she was six years old and her father not being able to cope with the loss of his wife disappeared. Her and her sister Lillie Belle Kiser were taken and raised by Oliver and Carrie (Carrigan) Outhouse in Odin, Illinois.
She moved to Michigan and married Henry Harrison Grimes on July 4, 1911 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and together they had six children, Angeline Amanda, Mary Elizabeth, Violet Mae, William Henry, James Elmer (1921 - 1994 married first Norma Jean Baker then Barbara Hume) and Harry "Brownie" Grimes.
She died on August 27, 1958 in Petoskey, Michigan at the age of 71.
