Henry Harrison Grimes was born on February 21, 1883 in Jackson Township, Wood County, Ohio to William Henry Grimes and Angeline (Slater) Grimes. He was the only one of their five children to live past childhood. He had a half brother James William Jacobs that also lived to be an adult from his mother's first marriage.
He was a farmer and enjoyed writing poems.
He moved to Michigan and married Bessie Mae Kaiser on July 4, 1911 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and together they had six children, Angeline Amanda, Mary Elizabeth, Violet Mae, William Henry, James Elmer (1921 - 1994 married first Norma Jean Baker then Barbara Hume) and Harry "Brownie" Grimes.
He died June 18, 1964 in Flint, Michigan at the age of 81.
