She was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Peoria, to John Sr. and Sarah (Cox) Harding.
She married Wilbur Evans in 1937, in Delavan. He preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1940. She then later married Eugene Mathis on Feb. 15, 1945, in Galveston, Texas. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2004. She also was preceded in death by four sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra (Jim) Emrick, Jo Anne (Gene) Knapp and Susan Atwell; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Brinkman and one brother, John Jr. (Imogene) Harding.
Lillian worked at the Pabst Brewery in Peoria and Schelm Bros. in East Peoria during the war. She later worked at Schwenk's Market, in Morton. She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Morton, having served as president and various other positions. In her earlier years, she was a Red Cross volunteer and member of the Morton Chorus Club and the Morton Optimisses.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, in Morton, with Morton Apostolic Christian Church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, and one hour prior to services on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to the Morton Apostolic Christian Timber Ridge, 2125 Veterans Road, Morton, IL 61550.
