Bertha Bearden, 88 – When her family gathered together, it was a mighty large affair. Bertha Lee Bearden is survived by 8 children, 33 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and several more on the way. Mrs. Bearden, a longtime resident of Grant, died Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the home of her daughter, Faye Driver on Bearden Road where she had lived for the past 3 years. She had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure in March. She was 88. She was born in Union Grove, one of 8 children of Joseph and Sarah Ann Dunn. Her husband, Richard died in 1988. In the 1970s, Mrs. Bearden was a correspondent for the Advertiser-Gleam, writing news about the Grassy Mountain area. She loved music and played a number of instruments, including the mandolin, guitar, piano, organ, French harp and dulcimer. She enjoyed family gatherings, quilting and sewing. She was known as a caring woman who enjoyed helping people she knew regardless of their circumstances. She cherished her time with her many grandchildren and working in her flower garden. She attended the Grassy Mountain Holiness Church. Mrs. Bearden is survived by 3 daughters, Faye Driver, Jessie Rice and Dorris Saint, all of Grant; 5 sons, Monroe, Paul and Willard Bearden, all of Grant, Lonnie Bearden of North Carolina and Lloyd Bearden of Gadsden; 4 sisters, Ovie Bearden, Mae Wells and Odell Keel, all of New Hope and Onema Carr of Walnut Ridge, Ark.; her brother, Conard Dunn of Walnut Ridge, Ark.; 33 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene Jimerson and her great-grand daughter, Sierra Allen. Funeral services were Saturday at the Grassy Mountain Holiness Church with Bro. Al Bridges and Bro. Walter Hereford officiating. The Wright Family, Travis and Jean Hardin and David and Joann Ashley provided the music. Pallbearers were Steve Rice, Jeff Bearden, Willard Bearden, Jr., Larry Drive, Jr., James Bearden, Eddie Saint, Shannon Bearden and Danny Saint. Burial was in Panquin Cemetery.
