They divorced and he married a second time to Janette________.
Joe was the first of the Lafferty children to go to Mexico in 1922 with his father. There he carried a gun at a young age. He supervised men in attending to the herd, calving, branding, round-ups, riding and repairing fences. Joe returned to Alamogordo in 1924 to go back to school. While he was going to high school he worked at Grooms Brothers Grocery store to help support his mother and brothers and sisters. He also worked at Dale's Piggly Wiggly and Safeway in Alamogordo. He managed a Safeway store in Alpine, Texas for a number of Years. Joe served in World War II in the Army. As a Corporal he was stationed with the U.S. Army 50th Battalion, 119 Platoon 1st company. As a Technical Sergeant he was with Section P. BK 168, Scott Field Illinois. As Sgt he was with AG Company Air Bay Section, APO NY, NY.

Joseph C. Lafferty passed away March 4 in Albuquerque New Mexico. He has been a resident of Albuquerque for 21 years but was formerly from El Paso. He was a member of the engineering corp in WW II and is a member of St Pauls Lutheran church in Albuquerque. Survivors, wife, Mrs. Jeanette Lafferty Albuquerque, daughter Mrs Mary Jo Porter of San Jose, California, Step daughter Mrs. Janice Herring of Hanover Park, Illinois, Step son Ervin Thlerfelder Battle Creek Michigan, Thomas Thlerfelder St Francis Wisconsin, sister Mrs Harvey Sadler of El Paso Tex., brothers Edwin Lafferty Midland Texas, William Lafferty of Livermore, California, Marley Lafferty of Costa Mesa California, four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at St Pauls Lutheran Church with pastor Larry Wright officiating. Interment was in Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors.
