"Walter A. Schumpelt, 87, of San Lorenzo, Calif., died April 11, 2012, in a Hayward, Calif. hospital.


Funeral services were held Monday, April 16, at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, Calif., with interment following at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Garden.


Schumpelt was born in Gillespie County on Aug. 14, 1924, the son of Walter Schumpelt and Helena Heinemann Schumpelt.


As a young man, he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines.


After the war, he remained in San Francisco, Calif., where he married Dorothy Howe. They settled in San Lorenzo. She preceded him in death.


Prior to retirement, he worked as a paint manufacturer."
