"The death of Mrs. Nellie P. Chase of Ilion, widow of the late Horace Chase, occurred Wednesday, May 25th, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Hosea Wicks, at Lentsville. Mrs. Chase, who had been ill since December 27th last, underwent an operation in March. Three weeks ago complications developed and she suffered a relapse from which death resulted. Mrs. Chase was the daughter of Andrew J. and Elva (Burke) Stocking and was born at Fork Shop February 17, 1870. She lived there until her marriage, January 4, 1899, to Mr. Chase when they took up their residence on Christian Hill in the town of Hartwick. Mr. Chase passed away in 1903, and for the past thirteen years her home had been at No. 24 Spring street at Ilion. She had been with her sister Mrs. Wicks, since October, 1930. She was a member of the Ilion Methodist church and was a woman held in the highest esteem by a wide circle of friends who will deeply mourn her loss. Surviving besides the sister mentioned above are one daughter, Miss Elva M. Chase of Ilion; three brothers, Fred D. Stocking of West New York,
N. J., and Lee A. Stocking of Cooperstown, several nieces and a nephew. The funeral was held at the Wicks home at Lentsville Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock the Rev. A. D. Finch of Ithaca, an intimate friend of the family, officiating. Over eighty relatives and friends were present from Ilion, Springfield, Utica, Syracuse, New Jersey, Jordanville, Cooperstown, Fly Creek and Hartwick.
The profusion of floral tributes which included fourteen beautiful pieces bore silent testimony to the regard in which she was held. Burial was made in the Fly Creek Valley cemetery." ["The Otsego Farmer & Republican" (Cooperstown, NY), Fri., June 3, 1932, Page Two]
