James Drummond Hoggan was born 18 January 1890 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. He was 7th of the 11 children born to George Drummond Hoggan and Edith Frances Harrison Hoggan. Siblings: George Ralph Hoggan (1878-1961), Mary Margaret Hoggan (1878-1909), John Cousins Hoggan (1880-1880), Eliza Frances Hoggan (1881-1881), Walter Thomas Hoggan (1883-1919), Wilford Woodruff Hoggan (1885-1951), Edith [Hoggan] Ball (1892-1978), Ivie [Hoggan] Burt (1895-1983), Ivin Hoggan (1895-1948) and Milton J. Hoggan (1898-1929). When he was about three years old, the family moved to Providence, Utah, where he spent his early boyhood. At fourteen, he joined his father and older brother in Rigby, Idaho, where they were operating a harness shop. On 5 May 1909, he married Agnes Maria Cordon in the Logan L.D.S. Temple in Cache County, Utah, and on May 21st left for a mission for the L.D.S. Church in the Western States Mission. After serving two years in Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming, during one summer of which, he traveled nearly three thousand miles on foot. He returned to Rigby where he managed the family business. He and Agnes became the parents of 10 children: Iola Hoggan (1912-1977), Drummond C Hoggan (1914-1975), Margaret [Hoggan] Coleman (1916-2013), Cleo Agnes [Hoggan] Rose (1917-1987), Frances [Hoggan Rich] (1919-1994), Georgia [Hoggan] Taylor (1921-2011), Adele [Hoggan] Dey (1923-2006), James Cordon Hoggan (1927-2001, George Hoggan and Marie [Hoggan] Gosch.
In the spring of 1918, he moved his family to Driggs, Idaho. In 1921 they moved to Brigham City, Utah, and in 1922, they moved to Tremonton, Utah. In all of these places, he owned and managed harness & saddler shops. In early 1929, the family moved to Burley, where he bought the harness, saddle, and canvas business which he operated until 1956. Burley was his home until the time of his death. In all of the places in which he lived, he was active in business, Church and civic affairs. He held numerous positions in the Church, among which was Bishop of the Burley Second Ward for ten years, two years as counselor to President R. O. Hatch, and four years as President of the Burley Stake. He served three years on the Cassia County School Board, part of that time as Chairman, and was a member of the Burley Chamber of Commerce and the Burley Rotary Club. He died Friday, 28 October 1966 in the Cassia Memorial Hospital in Burley, Cassia, Idaho after an illness of several months. Surviving him are his wife, Agnes, and their ten children: three sons and seven daughters, two sisters, twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
