Mrs. Mary Emma Staples, 81, died in St. Andrew's Hospital this morning after an illness of about two years.

She was born in Louisville, Ky., and had lived in Murphysboro for 41 years. She was married to John Henry Staples, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Lloyd and Vivian of Los Angeles, Calif., and Howard of Tuscaloosa, Ala., one daughter, Mrs, Bernard Williams of Murphysboro, three grandchildren and one brother, Robert Clements of Cincinnati, Ohio. One son, three sisters, and three brothers preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, the C. L.B. S. Society and the Altar Society of the church.
