Enlisted in the Texas Rangers (Battalion of the Rangers of the NW Frontier) on 17 April 1837, and served for 1 year. He was granted land in Milam County for his service. He married Sirena Myers on 22 Dec. 1829, at the home of Charles Myers (her father) in Jefferson County, Texas. They moved to Milam County in 1846. Additional children not linked to were Mary Jane Zellner Griffin (wife of Richard Thomas Griffin), and Elizabeth Francis Zellner Hodges (wife of David Large Hodges).
