During the war of the rebellion, he joined Company G, Iowa 30th Volunteer Regiment as a private where he served as a nurse. The end of one finger was shot off in action at Walnut Hill near Vicksburg, Mississippi. He mustered in Sept. 14, 1862 and mustered out June 5, 1863.
He died at the home of his daughter, Emma Rose (Mrs. Robert Clinkscales). His funeral services on Monday at the Leesburg church were conducted by Rev. Barton, pastor of the Stafford Baptist church. The Stafford cornet band was in attendence.
