"Death of Mrs. Seamen
"Mrs. Gertrude Seamen who was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, on April 18th, 1867, and died Sunday, August 16th, 1913, at about 7:30 o'clock in the morning. She made her home in Iowa until 1878, when she came to Kansas with her father, Theopilus Goin, who settled near Leesburg. Here she spent her girlhood days, with the exception of two years, from 1886-1889 (dates unclear), when she served as deputy register of deeds to her father. In 1889, with the family of Robert Clinkscales, she moved to Galena, Mo., and made that her home for several years. On May 13th (or 15th), 1891, she married Efton Seamen, who was then a hardware merchant in Galena.
"Mr. and Mrs. Seamen where both converted and united with the M.E. church while they lived in Galena and for several years were very active church workers. She continued her faith in God and remained a consistent Christian until death.
"In 1902 she and her husband moved to Pueblo, Colo., remaining there until 1905, when they came to this county to make their home. Mr. Seamen passed away in July, 1908. Since then she has made her home with her sister, Mrs. Robert Clinkscales. Mrs. Seamen was never very strong physically and about two and one half year ago, was compelled to give up her work in Pollock's store on account of her health. She gradually grew worse, the dread disease, tuberculosis, having fastened its fangs on her. During her entire illness she was a most patient sufferer, and appreciated every little courtesy she received at the hands of the family and friends. Her sister, Mrs. Clinkscales, has watched patiently at her bedside, and her loving ministrations display her kindly heart.
"The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock at the Leesburg church, Rev. E. F. Buck, assisted by Rev. D. R. Sappeafield, conducting the service.
"The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church, amid a profusion of flowers, bearing the esteem and sympathy of a large circle of friends of the family." (It is unknown as to which date of birth is correct; however, on a number of other records, her married name is spelled as in her obituary, so it appears that her tombstone has her name misspelled.)
