John Will "Salty" Hammond, 78, of Stockwell, died at 1:02 p.m. Saturday in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had ben in failing health, since October and hospitalized since Jan. 23. Born in Simpson county, Ky., he moved to Tippecanoe county in 1954 and had resided at Stockwell 20 years. He served 31 years in the U. S. Navy, retiring as chief coxswain in 1949. Mr. Hammond was a member of Lafayette Conservation Club and Wildcat Conservation Club at Mulberry. Surviving are two brothers, Luther and Louis Hammond, both of Lafayette; and four sisters, Mrs. J. T. (Louise) Larkins and Mrs. Earl (Florine) Rigsby, both of Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Herman (Christine) Cramer of Orlando, Fla., and Wilma Jean Strange of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
