Spencer's middle initial was T (not F), which stands for his mother's maiden surname.

Spencer Turner BARBER was the son of Jared Bissell BARBER and his 2nd wife Electa TURNER.

Spencer applied for a marriage licence on 19 Aug 1842. He then married Frances Eliza SAXTON two days later on 21 Aug 1842 Summit County, Ohio. They had 7 daughters and no sons.

Hannah F BARBER 1844–
Ellen N BARBER 1845 –
Sophia BARBER 1846 –
Josephine H "Josie" BARBER Riley 1848–1881
Lodica Terressa BARBER 1850–
Alta J BARBER Riley 1853–1936
Ida BARBER Odell 1856–

The family moved to Calhoun Co., Michigan.

Enlisted as a Private on 5 October 1861 at the age of 42. Enlisted in Company H, 13th Infantry Regiment Michigan on 17 Jan 1862. Died of chronic diarrhea at the Nashville Hospital, and as a result of his death, he was mustered out on 9 Nov 1862 at Nashville, TN.

He and his daughter Josie's husband's 2nd wife's father Charles Reed joined the same military unit. They both died in the same place. Spencer did not get a headstone while Charles did.

He was buried at Nashville National Cemetery, but there is no stone for him. Probably was one of many unknowns buried in this cemetery. The kiosk does not list him, because there is simply no stone for him there, but was probably marked as unknown. There were many soldiers were not identified and were buried in an area for unmarked burials.
