Alex Arnold, 54, of 127 Sloan Street, died unexpectedly Wednesday night, December 20, in a Sylva hospital.
He was a son of Oscar Arnold of Franklin and the late Julia Crisp Arnold. He was a lifelong resident of Macon County, a veteran of World War II, a graduate of Western Carolina University, a real estate broker, previously taught in the Macon County school system, and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to the father are the widow, Mrs. Grace Shepherd Arnold; a son, Jerry L. Arnold of Franklin; three daughters, Mrs. Judy Hengen of Rapid City, S. D. and Joy and Jill Arnold of the home; four brothers, Roy, Fred, and Lex, all of Franklin and Lester Arnold of Cherokee; three sisters, Mrs. Wiley Clark, Mrs. Harry Womack and Mrs. Leonard Holland, all of Franklin.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in Sugar Fork Baptist Church.
The Revs. James Crayton and Alton Dendy officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the Franklin VFW Post and American Legion Post of Franklin, who conducted full military graveside rites.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Bryant Funeral Home.
