Eldred E. "Mr. Bill" Hausman, 83, of St. Augustine, died Aug. 17, 2005, at his home. Mr. Hausman was born in Fremont, Ohio, and had resided in St. Augustine since 1974, moving here from Fremont. Mr. Hausman was a retired tool and die maker in the oil industry. Mr. Hausman worked at Fiesta Falls Miniature Golf until his retirement in 2003.

Hausman was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was aboard The USS San Francisco during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Hausman was a two-time recipient of the Purple Heart. Hausman took part in numerous battles while aboard the USS San Francisco, which was the first winner of the Presidential Citation during World War II and the recipient of 18 Battle Stars. Hausman received numerous medals and ribbons before leaving the Navy in 1945.

Survivors: His companion, Carole Hausman, St. Augustine; three sons, Ronald R. Hausman, Fremont, Michael Hausman and Brian Hausman, both of Hopewell, Va.; daughter, Kimberly Hirfield, Hopewell; brother, Willis Hausman, Fremont; sisters, Irma Beckley, Fremont, Lois Williams, Bettsville, Ohio, Rita Justi, Monroeville, Ohio, Inez Smith, Myrtle Ackerman, both of Fremont, and Alice Lauer, Fort Myers; step-children, Rick Laughlin, Holly Laughlin, Melody Laughlin Rivera, and Randall Laughlin, all of St. Augustine; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
