The Many Years
written by Sandra Lee Ayers

Oh my, Dad, please forgive, for my forgetfulness;
For letting your birthday slip on by, Without a card, unless!!
You too, would like to forget ..... Your birthday from now on,
By the way, how old are you now? You don't say, just 41 !!
Don't worry Dad, about the years, Just remember this
No matter what age you are, You're never to old to kiss.
Oh, there's another thing, Dad, That I would want you to know
All of your children love you, Even sometimes when it don't show
And Mom there, look at her, By your side she's been these years,
I'm getting kind-a sentimental, Hope we all don't end in tears:
Oh, well Dad, you know me, I don't stay sad for long
There's too many things to be happy for, And you are a special one.
Better end my writing now, And go on about my work,
Have a Happy Birthday, Boy! Am I a jerk.
You didn't want to remember them, And I've reminded you
But then, I' m not the only one, The rest of your kids did too.
Oh, and one other thing ---about what age are you
It seems to me that you should be about ah 62.
So I will say so long for now, Until I write again
This poem comes from all of us, With love that we do send.
