Catharine was the daughter of Peter Daniel and Anne Rebecca Robinett Daniel, both born in Germany. Soon after father Peter Daniel died in 1818 in Clark County, Indiana, the whole family moved to Sullivan County, Indiana for a few years. But soon after mother Anne Rebecca died, Catharine moved with some of her married sisters to Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, where she met and married Isaiah Wesley Mote. They moved to Parke County, Indiana, where all eight of their children were born. Shortly before 1850, the family moved to Delaware County, Indiana, where many of Isaiah's relatives already lived.
