George E. Bancroft, 72, Rte. 2, Henke Road, Janesville, a life long resident of Rock County, died at 7:15 a.m., Sunday in Mercy Hospital. He had been ill for the past year.
Born in Harmony Township Feb. 2, 1890, he was the son of George O. and Dianah Leake Bancroft. He served in the U.S. Navy, 1909 to 1915, and attended Janesville Business College. He married Stella Yale in Milton Township Feb. 23, 1916. He was a member of Cargill Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Walter E. Bancroft, Janesville; four daughters, Mrs. Texton Miller, Cary, N. C., Mrs. Dean Cullen, Rte. 2, Janesville, Mrs. Mylen Hoff, Crystal Lake, Ill., and Mrs. Robert Barthel, Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Bancroft, Walworth; three sisters, Miss Myrtle Bancroft and Mrs. Edwin Lohry, both of Janesville, and Mrs. Frank Howard, Rte. 1, Janesville. A son, Robert Bancroft died in 1923.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Overton Funeral Home, the Rev. Stephen Rankin, Cargill Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery.
