Lorraine Sletten, 89, formerly of Thief River Falls, MN, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine, MN.

Funeral services were held at 10.30 am Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. George Davis officiating. Casket bearers were Rachel Houle, Cody Houle, Ronny Sletten, Dean Sletten, Jose Almendarez and Darryl Opdahl. Honorary castet bearers were Lorraine's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitatiion was held one hour prior to the service at Johnson Funeral Service. Burial followed at Telemarken Cemetery, rural Goodridge, MN.

Lorraine May (Runnestrand) Sletten was born on May 1, 1922 in Kratka Township, Pennngton County, MN the daughter of Henry and Clara (Tronnes) Runnestrand. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Telemarken Church of rural Goodridge. Lorraine attended school in Kratka Township.

At a young age, Lorraine worked at home on the family farm. When she turned 19, she and her sister, Marilyn moved to Minneapolis and went to work sewing hot air balloons. Lorraine returned to Theif River Falls and worked for Ben Franklin, and did various babysitting jobs, as well as helped on the farm.

In 1954, Lorraine met Orvis Magnus Sletten. The couple fell in love and were married on June 18, 1955. To this union, one daughter, Darlene, was born. Lorraine and Orvis briefly worked on a ranch in Montana before making their home in Thief River Falls. They later moved to a farm near town. Together, they farmed and raised livestock. Orvis passed away in 1999, and Lorraine contimued to live on their farm for quite a few years until moving to Thief River Falls in 2005 and to the Pioneer Memorial Home in 2008.

Lorraine loved to spend time with her family. She was affectionately called "Grandma Sweetheart" by her great-grandchildren. Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, going for drives in the country, deer hunting, and spending time outdoors. Lorraine loved animals of all kinds, especially cats and dogs.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Darlene (Robert) Houle of Plummer; grandchilddren, Robyn (Jose) Almendarez of Red Lake Falls, Rachel (Kyle Larson) Houle of Thief River Falls, Ryan Houle of Thief River Falls, and Cody Houle of Plummer; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Reina, Arianna, and Jordyn Almendarez, Alexia, Emily, Kyra, and Kyle Larson, and Gracy Seed; sister, Marilyn Sletten of Thief River Falls; sisters-in-law, Bernice Sistad of Grygla and Adeline Sletten of Thief River Falls; as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvis; sisters, Hazel Nabben, Cora Nabben, Evelyn Schwartz, Arlene Hagen, and Annie,(infant sister); and brothers, Lewis, Roy, Henry Jr., and Raymond.
