J. Robert Gulick, Sr.
YORK—J. Robert Guile k, St , 96, died at 7:58 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Manor Care Health Services - Kingston Court. He was the husband of the late Pauline M. (Haugh) Gulick.
Born September 13, 1906 In Perkasie, Pa., he was the oldest of eight children of the late Jesse K. and Aquilla (Bishop) Gulick.
He was also a pioneer of Radio and Television broadcasting. He served as Station Manager of the former Radio Station WORK in its early years. He was National Sales Manager of the former Mason Dixon Group based in Lancaster which was comprised of Radio Stations in Lancaster, York, Harrisburg, Reading and Eastern, Pa. and Wilmington, Del. He was Assistant General Manager in charge of Sales for WGAL-TV, Channel 8 from the time it went on the air until his retirement in December of 1971.
He was a 1924 graduate of Perkasie High School, a 1926 graduate of Taylor Business College, Philadelphia and a 1930 graduate of Gettysburg College. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, Advent Leisure Group, White Rose Lodge 706 F.& A.M., York Forest #30 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Springetts Chapter #3400 of A.A.K.P., Past President of Pa Association of Broadcasters, former member of the Sales Executive Committee of National Association of Broadcasters, former member of Television Bureau of Advertisers. In 1993, he was honored with a fifty year pin from the White Rose Lodge #706 F. & A.M. and York Forest #30 Tall Cedars of Lebanon.
He is survived by a son, J. Robert Gulick, Jr. of York; four grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie McCloskey and Eleanor Gebhardt, both of Phoenixville, Pa.; and one brother, Arthur D. Gulick of Ormond Beach, Fla. Mr. Gulick was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris E. Gulick, an airline Stewardess, who was killed in an airline crash in May 1959.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1111 E. Market St., York. Rev. Richard L. Ehrhart and Rev. Brenda M. Ritterpusch, pastors of Advent Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
