Funeral for Edith Bates Shelton, 97, of Trinity will be today, April 12, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ronald Davis officiating. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from noon until service time.
Mrs. Shelton, who died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at her residence, was born May 15, 1914, in Morgan County to James Edward Bates and Diza Albennie Wilson Bates. She worked for several years at the undergarment and shirt factories in Moulton. She was a member of Conway Church, but had attended Caddo Congregational Christian Church. Mrs. Shelton enjoyed the outdoors and gardening for several years until her health prevented it. She will be lovingly remembered by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Phil Shelton and second husband, James Shelton; four brothers, Bennie, Samuel Booth, Roland and Omer Bates; and three sisters, Bessie Bates Childers, Flora Bee Bates Sammons and Obie Bates Johnson Staggs.
Survivors include her caretakers, nephew, Kenneth Bates (Pat) of Decatur and niece, Jean Bates Hallman of Moulton and several other nieces and nephews; three stepsons, Marlon (Betty), Millard and Arnold (Sandy) Shelton; five stepgrandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott Bates, Todd Bates, Bobby Bates, Bruce Bates, Don Bates, Jerry Bates and Steve Shelton.
