W. Eugene Baker, 70, Watsontown
WATSONTOWN--W. Eugene Baker, 70, formerly of East Seventh Street, Watsontown, and of 95 Gould Ave., Chesapeake, Va., since 1993, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in the emergency room of Chesapeake General Hospital, Chesapeake, Va., following an extended illness.
He was born July 25, 1930, in Muncy, a son of the late Ollie R. and Marie K. (Whalen) Baker. He was married to the former M. June Young, who preceded him in death in 1992, after 43 years of marriage.
Gene was employed by Textron-Lycoming, earlier known as Avco, Williamsport, as a machinist before retiring on medical disability in 1981. Earlier in his life, he was employed by Philco Ford/Zenith Corp., Watsontown.
He was affiliated with First United Presbyterian Church, Watsontown.
He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, Watsontown.
Surviving are three daughters and one son-in-law, Janis M. Baker of Rochester, N.Y., Linda D. Ackley of Wrightstown, N.J., and Kay R. and Lewis Ziegler of Chesapeake; one son and daughter-in-law, W. Eugene "Gene" and Patricia Baker Jr. of Chesapeake, five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary, in 1958; two brothers, Leonard "Mike" Baker and Floyd Baker; and one sister, Loretta Batdorf.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home by the Rev. Elizabeth B. Affsprung.
Burial will be in Watsontown Cemetery.
