Eureka Crump was the only known child born to John Wesley Crump (1834 – 1922) and Frances Jane Dickson (1845 – 1933), second marriage for John Wesley Crump.

In 1908 at age 22, Eureka Crump married 23 year old Joseph O "Joe" Wilhite Jr of South Carolina. According to the 1910 census, the couple was living in Charleston Ward 6, Charleston County, South Carolina. Eureka Wilhite was the mother of two children with one child, John W (or V) Wilhite, age 3/12 in April 1910, living at the time of the census.

The child, John Wilhite, was not listed on the 1920 census with his parents. (As of this time, I have not been able to locate a burial site for the child in either Anderson County, South Carolina, Stephens County, Georgia, or Franklin County, Georgia.) In 1920 Eureka and Joe Wilhite lived in their home on Savannah Street in Toccoa, Stephens County, Georgia which they owned, free of a mortgage.

In the 1930 census, 42 year old Eureka Wilhite lived with her 44 year old husband Joe Wilhite and her 84 year old widowed mother Jane Crump in Toccoa, Stephens County, Georgia. Joe Wilhite owned their home on Savannah Street which had a stated property value of $6000. Joe Wilhite was the proprietor of a local Drug Store and Eureka worked there as a Prescription Clerk.

In 1940, Eureka and Joe Wilhite had moved to a small farm which they owned, valued at $500. The farm was located in Red Hill Militia District 212, Enumeration District 59-5 of Franklin County, Georgia. Eureka was listed as a Farmer who had worked 40 hours the last week of Mar 1940. Joe was listed as unable to work.

After 55 years of marriage, Eureka Crump Wilhite was widowed on Dec 19, 1963. According to the Stephens County Georgia Death Index, Eureka Crump Wilhite died in Toccoa, Stephens County, Georgia, on Dec 26, 1969, and was buried in the Silver Brook Cemetery, on White Street in Anderson, Anderson County, South Carolina where her husband had been laid to rest six years earlier.

**Note: On 3 May 2013 I received an email from Find A Grave contributor TheresaAP53 with information regarding the child of Eureka and Joe Wilhite, John Wilhite who was age 3/12 in April of 1910. I had mentioned that this child was not listed in the 1920 census for Eureka and Joe and that I had not yet found a grave site for him in either southern South Carolina, or the Stephens/ Franklin County areas in north Eastern Georgia to where the couple had relocated by the time of the 1920 census. In this email Theresa wrote, "I think this should be the grave for their child you indicated in your narrative that you hadn't found: John Wesley Wilhite -- Memorial# 99759285." This does indeed look like their child. John Wesley Wilhite died at less than 6 months of age and was buried in the Silver Brook Cemetery, Magnolia Section located in Anderson, Anderson County, South Carolina. His parents were later buried in the same section of Silver Brook Cemetery after their deaths. I would like to extend a special thanks to Theresa for sharing this information with me!**
