-Mrs. L. V. Hughes Dead.

BRENHAM, Texas, February 27.-Sunday night, after a lingering illness of many months duration, Mrs. Liberty Victoria Hughes, relict of the late Captain O'Brian Smith Hughes, died here. Mrs. Hughes was born DeWalt in Newberry, S. C., July 4, 1840, and was therefore at the time of her demise 70 years of age.

She came to Texas in 1856, and while at the home of her uncle, Colonel J. D. Waters of Houston, was married to O'Brian Smith Hughes the same year of her advent in Texas.

They made their home in Fort Bend county for two years and then moved to Washington county in 1859, where she had resided continuously since that time. For children survive, viz: E. C. Hughes of Whitman, Henry W. Hughes of Chappell Hill and Misses Annie and Lelia Hughes, who reside here.
