Born in Newberry District, South Carolina, September 22, 1819. Married Miss Mary M. Hair, August 25, 1840. Moved to Ft. Bend County, Texas in 1846, and to Polk County in 1847, settling on Minary Creek, six miles east of Livingston, where he engaged in farming and where he died April 25, 1891. Enlisted in April, 1861, in company organized by D. D. Moore, captain; was elected first lieutenant and on resignation of Capt. Moore, was promoted to captain of company. At expiration of term of service - one year - returned home, where he was given rank of Major and placed in command of battalion of State troops on Gulf Coast to close of the Civil War.
