Amanda Ream Neubert was born at Canton, Ohio, June 5, 1836. Her parents dying when she was but a child, she was left to the care of strangers. She was one of a family of ten, all of whom have preceded her to the other world. In 1855 she was united in marriage to Robert Neubert. They settled near Newstark (sic), Hancock Co. To them were born ten children. Two having passed away in infancy, the remaining eight are Harman (sic) A. and Chas. W. of Ada, Mrs. L. M. Burley of Huntington, Ind., Otto E. of Alger, Mrs. H. W. Dirmeyer of Dola, Mrs. Emmet James of Newstark (sic), Mrs. E. J. Shilling of Alger, Mrs. J. C. Hughes of Springfield Ohio. There are also twenty-three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The husband died in August 1899. The deceased was baptized and united with the German Baptist Church in her youth and remained a faithful member until some years ago she transferred her membership to the Church of Christ at Ada and was a member until her death. About a month ago she went to visit her daughter at Springfield, apparently in good health. On Tuesday, April 15, she was stricken with pneumonia and suddenly passed away on Monday (April 22, 1907), aged 70 years, 10 months, and 16 days. She lived to read her Bible and was often found reading it when alone. Her husband having lost his health in the late Rebellion, the greater part of caring for the children was left to the mother who struggled through it all without a murmur. She was a faithful wife, a kind mother and a good neighbor. The poor never left her door unaided. Although we will miss her we know she was prepared to go. It can truly be said of her "Her work was well done." The funeral service was held at the home Thursday afternoon by Rev. Chas. Fulkerson, after which she was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
