Fletcher Lewis was born the oldest child of six children to Alex Lewis and Amanda Drones Lewis on May 1880 in Edegecombe County, North Carolina . He migrated to Milam County, Texas in the early 1890s with parents and sister, Pearl Lewis White. He was resident of Calvert, Milam County, Texas but spent his last day at Hearne General Hospital in Hearne, Texas.


He married Lula Gilford on August 15, 1901 in Milam County. Fletcher and Lula Gilford Lewis were the parent of six children: Elnora Lewis-Hawkins (Murtis), Lorine Lewis-Lewis (John L. Lewis Sr), Buster "TC" Lewis (Flonnie), Bryant Lewis, Charlie Lewis and Lonnie B. Lewis.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Lula Gilford Lewis, all six children, brothers, Aranious Lewis, Eugene Lewis Sr and James Lewis and sister, Annie Bell Lewis Posey; and grand children and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Alex Lewis, and mother Amanda Drones-Lewis; and his sister Pearl Lewis White.

He was buried on September 19, 1958 in Branchville Cemetery (Old Providence Cemetery) along with other Lewis family members and friends.
