TRENTON, Nebraska -- John Reuben Acton, 83, of Trenton, passed away peacefully on. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 ,at the El Dorado Manor Nursing Home in Trenton, Nebraska.

He was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Agency, Iowa to Harry and Katie (Widger) Acton. From Iowa they moved to Wauneta, Nebraska in 1935, where John was reared and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1948. He married Marian Cross on Nov. 24, 1956, at the Wauneta Methodist Church.

John had many jobs throughout his life; he worked at the Coop in Wauneta until they moved to Trenton in 1961 to work at the Trenton Coop. In 1964, he opened his own service station called "John's Skelly." John worked at Miller Manufacturing in Stratton, until 1983, when he started driving the school bus for Trenton Flublic School District. He then worked for the cable television company until retirement.

He was a member of the rural fire department in Wauneta and Trenton, he also served on the Trenton Village Board and was a fifty-year member of the Methodist Church.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marian Acton; son, Jerald R. Acton and wife, Kristy of Firth, Nebraska; daughter, Pamela and husband Gale Hagaman of Bennett, Nebraska and son, Loran Acton and wife, Susan of Concord, California; six grandchildren, Nathan Acton, Courtney Acton, Katie Hagaman, Kyle Hagaman, McKenzie Acton and Lucas Acton; one brother, Ronald Acton of Wauneta, Nebraska; relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Trentom with Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.. Memorials may be given in his name and left at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening.

Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
