My Grand Uncle Michael was born in Jezupol, Galicia (Poland)which is now Yezupil, Ukraine. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1914 when he was 16. In part this decision to immigrate was to avoid Michal's drafting into the Austrian Army, which controlled this part of Poland at the time. The family arrived in Quebec in June 1914. When he was 21 he married Julia Szemieniak in Montreal in 1918. Son Albert was born there in 1919. He and Julia immigrated to America in 1921, settling in Chicago. A daughter Helen was born there in 1924 and another still living daughter was born in 1933. In later life they moved to Niles, Il, a suburb of Chicago where Julia died in 1968. Michael died in 1976.
