BURRILLVILLE – Averill M. (Young) Maher, 95, of Glendale, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 22, 2010. She was the wife of the late former Fire Chief and Senator James C. Maher.
Born in Glendale, a daughter of the late Raymond and Susan (Thompson) Young.
Averill was the towns first female bus driver for Nelson Bus Co. She also worked for the former Stillwater Mills for many years.
She was an active member of the community and belonged to the Burrillville Historical Society, Burrillville Methodist Church and the Woman's Auxiliary to the Glendale Fire Dept. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed knitting.

She was preceded in death by her four brothers.
