S. Augusta (Gussie) Flerchinger, 1926-2011
Gussie passed away peacefully in her sleep Nov. 22, 2011. She was born Sep. 15, 1926, the fifth child of 12 to Joe and Sophia Flerchinger, when they were farming in Peola, Wash.
She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Peola before going to Holy Family grade school and Clarkston High School. She received her bachelor's degree in education when she was a school sister of Notre Dame and spent most of her adult life teaching in the Minnesota Twin Cities area.
She helped build a log cabin hideaway in Spicer, Minn., where she shared her life with a very special family, the Chvatals. She moved to Clarkston in 2002 to be nearer to her roots.
She is survived by five sisters, Rita Dahlin of Lewiston, Felista Martin of Bend, Ore., Cathy Keen of Seattle, Marg Servatius of Clarkston and Alice Flerchinger of Spokane; two brothers, Donald Flerchinger of Wilsonville, Ore., and John Flerchinger of Clarkston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
If there was one thing that could define her character, it might be that she was generous far beyond any expectation.
A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church in Clarkston and a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
