Rita Sophia (Flerchinger) Dahlin of Lewiston and formerly of Kamiah passed away Oct. 3, 2012, at Life Care Center, at the age of 92. She was born to Joe and Sophia (Wolf) Flerchinger on Sept. 26, 1920. She was the firstborn of 12 children. Sometimes Rita had the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. She was strong and level-headed at a young age. She grew up on the family homestead in Peola, Wash., until age 14, when the family moved to Clarkston in 1934. Rita attended Pleasant Ridge School near Peola. She would drive a team of horses on a buggy with three of her siblings to and from school. One time they saw a cougar and hurried home. She also attended Holy Family Grade School in Clarkston and is a graduate of Clarkston High School.
She married Donald D. Dahlin on May 13, 1942. They lived at Portland, Ore., Clarkston and Moscow before moving to Kamiah in 1948. While in Kamiah in her earlier years she was an active member of St. Catherine's Altar Society, serving as president and working on parish dinners. Rita was an Avon representative for 31 years, from 1972 to 2003. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her son, Robert Dahlin; brothers Eugene Flerchinger and Norb Flerchinger; sisters Gert Jackson, Betty Church and Gussie Flerchinger; and granddaughter Dana Lynn Jackson.
Her survivors are two sons, Tom Dahlin of Lewiston and Joe and Cheryl Dahlin of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Sharon Jackson of Lewiston and Judy and Paul Olson of Clarkston; one daughter-in-law, Linda Dahlin of Bonney Lake, Wash. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Dave Dahlin, Angie Brock, Rick Jackson, Dean Jackson, Renee Searle, Brett Jackson, Brian Olson, Shelli Webb, Nick Dahlin, Nicole Dahlin; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Flerchinger of Wilsonville, Ore., and John Flerchinger of Clarkston; four sisters, Felista Martin of Bend, Ore., Cathy Keen of Renton, Wash., Marge Servatius of Clarkston and Alice Flerchinger of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 in the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 633 Fifth Ave., Lewiston. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Center.
