Ione Gertrude Baker Byrd
ARCADIA-Ione Gertrude Baker Byrd, 98 years old, affectionately known as "Nanny" by her family, was born September 24, 1913 in Claiborne Parish to Jefferson Arvid Baker and Lizzie Belle Kilpatrick Baker.
Mrs. Byrd passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012, at Willow Ridge Nursing Home in Arcadia, Louisiana. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Arcadia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Varner M. "Jack" Byrd, her parents, and two sisters, Pauline Almond and Louise Trussell Moreland, two infant brothers and one nephew.
Mrs. Byrd is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Jacqueline Yvonne Byrd James and her husband Billy of Arcadia, Louisiana; two grandsons, Billy Michael James and wife Marla of Austin, Texas and Maxwell Heath James and wife Holly of Ruston, Louisiana; two great grandsons, Colby Falkner James and Brady Logan James of Austin, Texas; two great granddaughters, Ava Elizabeth James and Leah Caroline James of Ruston, Louisiana; one sister, Janet Baker Hall of Winter Park, Florida and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held Saturday afternoon, February 25, at 2:30 PM Rose-Neath's Arcadia chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Moon and Rev. Perry Anderson. Interment will follow at Hurricane Cemetery north of Arcadia, Louisiana. Funeral Home visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2012.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael James, Maxwell James, Colby James, Donald Byrd, Lane Harmon and Johnny Woodard.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff, the therapy department and all the nursing aides at Willow Ridge Nursing Home for their loving care of our loved one. A special thanks also to Luke Allen and Kathy Hall and Hospice of Caring Hearts.
