Mrs. Harriett E. Higgins, a resident of this vicinity for more than forty years, died at her home here Friday morning at 10:15 o’clock, her death resulting from old age complications.
Harriett Ellen Powers was born in Illinois on January 25, 1842, and while a small child was taken to Ohio where she remained until 1872. She was united in marriage to George Washington Higgins, at Hillsboro, Ohio on September 2, 1858 and to this union nine children were born, two dying in infancy. Those surviving are T.W., L. H., A. B., and C. A. Higgins and Mrs. Geo. Neely of Villisca, J. O. Higgins, Maitland, Missouri, and Mrs. J. E. Beavers of South of Villisca. Mrs. Higgins also cared for a motherless child from the time he was 21 months old until he was nine years of age. She is survived also by two brothers, twenty two grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He husband preceded her in death September 26, 1915.
She came to Villisca with her family in 1880 and resided here continuously until her death. She united with the Methodist Church when she was 11 years of age, and she was also a charter member of the John A. Logan circle. The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon, with Rev. J. L. Boyd in charge of the sermon. The pall bearers were George, Frank, Ray, and Russell Higgins, John Palmquist, and Venice Moore and interment was in the Villisca Cemetery.

She died January 11, 1924 in Villisca, Montgomery County, Iowa of chronic myocarditis, W. A. Lomas, M. D., burial in Villisca Cemetery, A. B. Wolfe, undertaker, Villisca. Informant was A. B. Higgins. She married George Washington Higgins on September 2, 1858 in Montgomery County, Iowa.
