The Casper Star-Tribune, August 24, 1979:

Charles Ballieu, 70, dies

UPTON - Services for longtime Upton resident, Charles A. Ballieu, 70, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church.

The Rev. William Jump will officiate with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

Ballieu died Tuesday at his home in Upton following a long illness.

He was born Jan. 29, 1909, at rural Dawes County, Neb., and was reared and educated near Chadron and attended country schools.

On Feb. 20, 1937, he married Edith Kunce at Chadron. They moved to Upton for a short while before moving to California where he was employed by the Douglas Aircraft Co. In 1944, they moved to Hulett where he helped his father operate the family saw mill. In 1949, they returned to Upton, where he worked for the saw mill, bentonite plant and was a truck driver for many years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gordon of Newcastle and Kenneth of Dayton, Texas; one daughter, Penny Fraser of Denver; three sisters, Helen Minnick and Nettie McCarthy, both of Newcastle, and Edith Strong of California; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son in 1965, and one brother.

The McColley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
