Son of Thomas Simpson and Mary J. C. Lewis, husband of Amy F. and father of William Thorne, Florence L. and Annie A. Simpson.

In 1855, William Simpson, 10, born New York, was shown living in Southfield Township, Richmond, NY with his parents, Thomas Simpson, aged 37, carriage maker, and Mary J. Simpson, aged 30, born in Richmond Co., NY, with siblings, Josephine, 12, born in Canada, Margaret, 8, born New York, and Marietta Simpson, aged 2, born Richmond Co., NY.

In 1900, William S. Simpson, aged 55, was shown living in Patchogue, Brookhaven, NY, with wife, Amie F. Simpson, aged 40, and children, Thorn, aged 13, Florence L., 11, and Amie A. Simpson, aged 5. William was shown to be a carpenter.

Obituary - William Sanford Simpson, a well known contractor and builder residing in Patchogue, while out riding about 2 A.M. on Sunday, in an automobile, with a party of friends, was seized with an attack of apoplexy near Oakdale and fell from the machine. He was taken to the office of Coroner Savage at East Islip, where he died. The deceased was born in Harlem on January 27, 1845. He was prominent in club and masonic circles and was also a past chief of the Patchogue Fire Department. He has also served as village trustee, town tax collector and was one of the old board of excise commissioners. A widow and three children survive him.

Also - William S. Simpson, prominent in business and Masonic circles in Patchogue was fatally injured early Sunday morning by being thrown from an automobile rounding a curve near Oakdale. He was taken at once to the office of Dr. W.B. Savage in East Islip, but was beyond aid and died at about 2 o'clock. He was 62 years of age and a native of Harlem, NY. He was a former town excise commissioner, town tax collector, village trustee, and for eight years was chief of the Patchogue Fire Department, and at the time of his death was a member of several secret orders. He is survived by a widow and three children, William T., Florence and Amy. The funeral was held from his late home on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Jacob Probst officiating.
