John Lewis Adams, Sr., 80, of Glasgow, died Friday, February 9, 2007 at his home with his wife, children and grandchild at his side after a long illness.
He was born November 2, 1926 in Roseland, Virginia, a son of the late Charles Lewis Adams adn Nellie Stevens Adams.
John served as staff sergeant and tank commander in World War II.
He was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church, a member of the Glasgow Fire and Rescue Squad for many years. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and was a former member of the Glasgow Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Oakley C. Adams; three children: John (Johnny) Lewis Adams, Mr. and wife, Sherry of Natural Bridge; Lynn Adams Johnson and husband, Steve of Buchanan, James Scott Adams and wife, Georgieanna of Glasgow; one sister, Annie Lunsford of Roseland; five grandchildren: Brian Adams and wife Tia, Teresa Deisher and husband Chris, Jacob Lewis and Molly Ann Adams, Dana Lynn Adams; three great grandchildren: Payton Hatcher and Brianna Deisher and Ashley Belle Adams; special relatives, Margie Ann Dorin and husband, John of Georgia, Louise Ireland of Springfield and special friends, Faye and Voley McClure.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Glasgow Baptist Church with the Rev. William M. Thomas offciating. Burial will follow in the Glasgow Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice or the Glasgow Fire and Rescue Squad. The family receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the Harrison Funeal Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
