Whiteford Leo Purvis PAMPLICO - Whiteford Leo Purvis, 79, of Pamplico, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in a Florence hospital. Mr. Purvis was born in Florence Co., SC a son of the late Whiteford Liston Purvis and Mary Elizabeth Turner Purvis Timmons. He was a life member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and a manager of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was a retired farmer and had worked with Waste Management. Mr. Purvis was an avid fisherman, loved bird watching, loved his family and hiding Easter eggs with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rachel Rue Fisher; brothers, Leon Purvis, T.V. Purvis, Napier Purvis and Eugene Purvis; half brother, Woodrow Cook; half sister, Mae Hanna and two grandsons. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jetty Rue Matthews Purvis; children, Winifred (John) Brunson, Reva (Steve) Baker and W.L. Purvis, all of Pamplico and Paula (Jeff) Martin of Wilmington, NC; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Minnie Humphrey, Euline (Buel) Baggott and Lillian Bigelow, all of Florence and Irene Ritch of Hartsville. Memorials may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery or to a charity of one's choice. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, March 12, 2010 in the Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
