Idaho Media Baron Dies

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho—James M. Brady, 76, president of the Post Co., which owns the Post-Register newspaper and television station KIFI, died suddenly Wednesday night on the island of Maui, Hawaii, where he was vacationing with his wife. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but a spokesman for the Post Co., said Mr. Brady appears to have died from a heart attack or stroke.
Mr. Brady worked as chief corporate officer of the Post Co., for most of his life. He was the grandson of former Idaho governor and U.S. senator, James H. Brady, and was the brother of J. Robb Brady, publisher of the Post-Register.
Mr. Brady assumed management of the commercial printing department at the Idaho Falls Post-Register in the early 1930s, and left the paper in 1947 to found Idaho Falls second radio station, KIFI. He also helped found KWIK radio in Pocatello, and KLIX radio in Twin Falls. In 1961, he founded KIFI television in Idaho Falls, and sold the KIFI radio station, which became KTEE.
A graduate of Notre Dame, Mr. Brady was quarterback of the school’s football team, under the instruction of coach Knute Rockne. Mr. Brady was a World War II veteran, and was a captain in the U.S. Army. He was the commander of the Bonneville Post of the American Legion, and a member of the Idaho Falls Kiwanis Club and Knights of Columbus Council. Mr. Brady was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marion, and four children: Jerry M.; Jack M.; and James Brady, and Mrs. Michael (Jill) Groth. Funeral arrangements are pending here. (Salt Lake Tribune, Salt Lake City, UT, Friday, 13 Jan 1984, pg 33)

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) James M. Brady, 76, president of the company that owns a newspaper and television station here, died while vacationing with his wife in Hawaii, a spokesman said.
Brady was president of the Post Co., which owns the Post-Register newspaper and television station KIFI. The Post-Register said in its Thursday editions that Brady died late Wednesday at Kaanapali, on the island of Maui. The cause of death has not been determined, but Melinda Chambers, the paper's city editor, said it appeared to have been a heart attack or stroke.
Born at Tulsa, Okla., on Aug. 13, (sic: 11) 1907, Brady moved to Pocatello at age 12 after his mother died.
His grandfather, James H. Brady, was both an Idaho governor and a U.S. senator.

Miss Josephine Murphy entertained several little folks at her home this (Tuesday) afternoon in honor of the seventh birthday anniversary of her little nephew, James Murphy Brady. The little guests were: June, Josephine, Margaret and Frank Pickett, George Brady, James, Howard, Bob and Matt Murdock. Refreshments were served for the guests and many gifts were received by the little guest of honor. (Galena Evening Times, Galena, KS, Tuesday, 11 Aug 1914, pg 1)
