Johann Leonard (John) Abraham was born in Seelau (now Zelewo) to parents Jacob Abraham and Antonina von Bobrucka (Bobrytzke). He was baptized in Gohra (Góra) Catholic parish. John had six siblings: Anna, Joseph, August, and Jacob died as children; sisters Augusta Kreft and Mathilde Muttke remained in West Prussia and raised their families there.
John Abraham married Pauline Kozlowski in Gohra (Góra) Catholic parish on 13 October 1872. They resided in Paradies (Paradyż) and then Lubotzin (Lubocino) where John worked as a servant and laborer. In 1891 he emigrated with his wife and their six children (Joseph, Cecilia, August, Frank, John, and Rose). A seventh child (Felix) was born soon after the family arrived in Chicago.
Unfortunately John and three of his children died of typhoid fever about seven months after arriving.
